Korean Culture Day, April 14, 2018

Please join Families Through Korean Adoption–Madison (FTKA) for our 8th annual Korean Culture Day, a morning of celebrating and bringing together families interested in South Korea and adoption. This FTKA event is open to the public. Please share the following registration link with friends, families, and other adoptive families.

Time:        8:30 – 9 a.m. registration and 9 a.m. – noon activities

Where:     St. Andrew Church, 6815 Schneider Rd, 
Middleton, WI 53562

Cost:        $7 per child and $10 per adult


We will have activities for ALL ages of children, including taekwondo, K-pop, B-boy dancing, a Korean snack store and Korean food to share. There will also be sessions specifically designed for adolescents and teens, including a safe space for this age group to connect with peers and young adult role models. Please note that any child three or younger will need to be accompanied by an adult.

For the adults, we will have a session on facilitating conversations about race with your adopted child, led by Lori DuRussel, M.S. Lori has a master's degree in educational psychology, with a focus on adult education and learning; is an adoptive mom; has worked in the adoption field for over 10 years; and believes that families come in all shapes and sizes. Adults will also have an opportunity to hear from Dan Bliss, an adult Korean adoptee who recently returned to Minnesota after living and working in South Korea for the past two years.

2018 FTKA annual membership dues

It's that time of year again for FTKA members to renew their family's annual membership. In order to assure that FTKA can continue to sponsor our two main events – celebration of the lunar New Year and Chuseok – and cover crafts; food; facility rental (when applicable); and organizational expenses, the annual membership fee per family is increasing from $40 to $45.

Please submit $45 payment of your family's 2018 membership fee via mail or PayPal. Deadline for payment is Feb. 1, 2018.

Korean Culture Day - April 1, 2017

Please join us for FTKA's annual Korean Culture Day on the morning of Saturday, April 1, 2017.

Once again, we will have activities for kids of ALL ages, including Korean language, dancing, crafts, and food.

There will also be a presentation for adults about traveling in Korea, hosted by Brook Newmaster, and a finale showcasing our guest performers' work with participating kids.

The event includes the following talent:
  • Brooke Newmaster of the Minneapolis-based Jang-mi Dance and Drum Group, and her artist-in-residence, Jisu Kim, of South Korea 
  • KASPer, UW Madison's K-pop crew 
  • B-Boy Matt Davidson 
  • Tae kwan do expert Richard Kim 
  • Hanji Crew will be hosting a craft-making session plus selling ready-made crafts 
 You won't want to miss this fun-filled event.

** Please note that any child under the age of three needs to be accompanied by a parent or caregiver at all times.

** Parents will also need to sign a waiver in order for their child to participate in this event.

Cost: This event is open to both FTKA members and members of the public for $6 per child and $10 per adult.
